VIVIAN, TWENTY-ONE, HUMAN, AGNES BRUCKNER When Kale was five years old, Vivian Bethany Cooper was born. She is the middle child of the Cooper clan and her parents are Mary and Henry Cooper. As she grew up, she became extremely close to Kale and her parents and looked up to them, especially her big brother. He was always her protector and best friend and she could tell him everything. They loved to play and spend time together. She learned how to swim when she was three and her big brother was there the whole time to cheer her on. Then, when she found out that she was going to have a baby brother, she was ecstatic. She thought everything would continue to be great, but that changed when her daddy got into a car accident and went into a coma. It happened shortly after her younger brother was born. Vivian had been five at the time and she barely remembered the sad time that the accident caused, but it changed her and her family forever. She grew up watching her older brother grow up too fast and her little brother growing up without a dad in his life. She vowed to help out around the house as much as she could. She didn’t want to rely on her mom and big brother completely, because she knew that it wasn’t fair that they had to take care of her and her baby brother. She tried her best in school so that they didn’t have to worry about going in and talking to the teachers there. When she was old enough, she got a job at a grocery store bagging groceries and gave all of the money she earned to her mother and big brother so that they could decide what to do with it. Every now and then, Kale would tell her that she didn’t have to work, but she would tell him that she wanted to help out. She told him that he already did way too much and that she would feel guilty if she just sat back and didn’t help. Her world changed once again when Kale met a girl and fell in love. She couldn’t help, but feel jealous. She also had a bad feeling about her, but knew that her brother won’t listen to her if she told him to stay away from her. Then he disappeared and she was left to take care of her mother and little brother. Her mother slowly grew depressed and she couldn’t help her get better. What was worse was that her mother didn’t want to get better. She just wanted to be left alone. After taking her brother to school, she came home and found her mother on the floor, passed out with an almost-empty bottle of pills beside her. She quickly called for an ambulance, but when the paramedics arrived it was too late. Her mother was dead and she couldn’t save her. She still doesn’t like to think about that day or when she told her little brother that their mother was dead. After their mother’s funeral, she decided to move them to Lytle Creek to start a new life. So they packed up the bare essentials, gave the hospital that her father was staying at her cell phone number, and made the journey up to Lytle Creek. When they arrived there, she found an apartment she and her little brother would be living in, enrolled him in school, and began the search for a job. She was able to get a job at a bakery. There, she made sweets, took out trash, delivered the food, etc. While she did that, she became like a second mother to her little brother. She doesn't realize yet that her older brother is living in the town of Lytle Creek, much less know about the changes he has went through since he left her and her baby brother all alone. She has shoulder-length straight blonde hair that she rarely does anything with except put it up in a ponytail every now and then. Her eyes are a dark green color that often looks lighter when a light shines on them. Her skin is lightly tanned, but when she is really sick it takes on a yellowish tint. She stands at about 5'6" tall and is slim with an athletic physique. She prefers to keep her clothes simple and often wears tennis shoes. She can’t walk in high heels, because she has never learned how to. Vivian can be really gentle sometimes, but she can get really mean when she wants to or when she has a bad day. She has a soft spot for her baby brother, misses Kale, and wishes that her parents were still there for them. At night, she can still see her mother lying on the floor, dead. For this reason, she doesn’t like to sleep and often goes a couple of nights without sleeping. She works really hard to bring in the money and has taken up the role of ‘caregiver’ since their mother’s funeral. She just wants to give a good example to her little brother and make a life for the two of them. When she has some free time, she loves to run, read graphic novels, and just be a young adult. She rarely has free time, though, so don’t expect to find her reading anytime soon. She is afraid of being alone and of the dark. She often wonders what Kale is up to and if he misses them. She hopes that she will see him again one day, but is concentrating on the present more than the future.
